This is a very common material for speakers. For multimedia speakers, most products use MDF. After high temperature and high pressure treatment, a high-strength sheet is formed. This material has a high price advantage, and subsequent processing is relatively easy, but the disadvantages are also obvious. Compared with solid wood materials, there are insufficient density, insufficient sound performance, insufficient sound insulation, humidity and durability.

The other is solid wood, including different woods such as walnut, maple, rosewood, mahogany, etc. The materials of the front baffle, side plate and backboard may be slightly different. Due to the natural characteristics of solid wood, the natural characteristics of the board will be better and will be more prominent in terms of density, strength and resistance to deformation, but the cost will also be higher. Therefore, it is generally only used for high-quality products, and is also regarded as a sign of the grade of audio power amplifiers.

Plastic: Plastic speakers

We have more non-abundant plastics than hard-to-recycle solid wood materials. Synthetic materials can be produced continuously. Also, on the technical side, plastics are easier to process and shape. So most of the fancy speakers we see are made of plastic material. Direct injection of high-gloss technology and colors to make plastic boxes have better appearance performance.

So most of the time, we think plastic speakers are inferior to wooden ones. In fact, this is not the case. We cannot define them just by the material of the shell. Many plastic speakers also have good sound quality.

Metal: Metal speakers

While metal speakers aren't as common as the first two, they're a great option. Metals are stronger and denser than wood and plastic, so they can produce a more unique sound. In addition, due to the color and texture of the metal material itself, it is very in line with the current mainstream aesthetic orientation, so the metal speakers also give people a high feeling, many small and portable speakers are made of metal materials.
