The problems and solutions in the acoustic design of sports venues

Sep 06,2023

The main problems in the acoustic design of sports venues are: severe multiple echoes, severe sound overflow (disturbing), and multiple local silent areas (sound blind spots), which need to be solved through acoustic construction and electroacoustic coordination in the design.

The problem of multiple echoes can be solved in two ways.

1. In terms of architectural acoustic design, it is necessary to add some sound absorption and reflection surfaces to minimize the propagation of sound in space, improve sound absorption efficiency, reduce reflected sound energy, avoid repeated reflection of high-energy sound waves, and expand the reverberation radius. Public Broadcasting Manufacturers

2. In terms of electroacoustic design, speakers with high directivity factor (Q value) and narrow directivity should be selected, such as Q125, which has a horizontal directivity of 60-90 or even 40-20. The attenuation slope outside the passband is greater than 60-90, and the sound energy outside the passband is relatively low

It is also necessary to design and adjust the coverage range of the speaker correctly, and control the bandwidth of low-frequency sound, which can also have a certain effect. Note that the narrower the directionality of the horn, the higher the cost

Using low-power decentralized speakers to supplement sound can solve the problem of local silent areas (sound blind areas). Some noteworthy issues in the acoustic design of sports venues are: if there are many structures and walls, such as ellipses or arcs with larger long and short axes, circles or arcs with larger diameters, large columns, echo walls, etc. It can easily lead to the consequences of crawling sound focus, causing serious sound defects, damaging sound quality, and reducing speech clarity. To some extent, this is a contradiction between design and aesthetic design, which requires attention and reasonable coordination during the design process
